Booked the combo trip for my dad's 70th. Limits of crab by 8am, limits of rockfish by 11. Curt filleted everything while we drank coffee in the cabin. Best birthday gift I have ever pulled off.Dana W. Olympia, WA · Combo trip, July 2025
Reviews are the highest-trust content a charter business owns, so Rooted Coast Design gave them a full page with room to breathe instead of a cramped carousel. Skim the short ones, then read Dave's story at the bottom.

Third year in a row on the salmon opener. He watches the weather like a hawk and tells you the truth about it, which I respect more than a guaranteed trip. When we do go, we catch.Rich and Karen L. Portland, OR · Ocean salmon, July 2025

Our 9-year-old pulled her own pot and has not stopped talking about it. The dockside crab cook at the end is worth the drive from Seattle by itself. We are already booked for August.Priya S. Seattle, WA · Bay crabbing, June 2025

Company trip, six guys, half of us had never fished. The deckhand had endless patience and Curt put us on lingcod until our arms hurt. The vacuum-sealed fillets survived the flight back to Denver.Marcus B. Denver, CO · Private charter, August 2025

He rescheduled us twice for weather and never made us feel like a hassle. When we finally went out, the bay was glass and we limited in three hours. That patience is why I trust this operation.Elaine T. Aberdeen, WA · Bay crabbing, May 2025

Halibut trip in May. Long run out, worth every minute. My fish went 52 pounds and Curt talked me through the whole fight like a boxing corner man. Booking the same week next year.Sam K. Spokane, WA · Spring halibut, May 2025

Dave R. · Bremerton, WA · Bay crabbing, April 2025My father took me crabbing in Grays Harbor in 1987, off a rented skiff with two rusty ring nets. He passed in 2023, and last spring I decided my own son, who is 11, was going to learn to pull a pot the way I did. I found Slack Tide through a friend in Aberdeen and told Curt the whole story over the phone. He went quiet for a second and then said, well, we better make it a good one.
He did. He timed our trip to a morning slack so calm the bay looked like poured metal. My son pulled four pots himself, hand over hand, and Curt never once reached over to help unless he was asked, which is exactly right. We came home with 18 crab. But the part I keep thinking about is the ride back in, when Curt let my boy take the wheel inside the harbor and talked to him about his own grandfather Arne the whole way to the float.
We cooked our crab on the dock and ate the first one standing up, right there, the way it should be done. My son asked if we can come back every year. We can, and we will. Some businesses sell trips. This one, whether Curt would put it this way or not, sells the thing my father gave me.
Pick a date, bring your people, and we will put you on the crab.
